As a practice , we are extremely keen on good gum health. More people ultimately loose their teeth
from their gums letting them down than from their teeth falling apart. Also good oral hygiene leads
to less decay, reduced bad breath and better general health.
In our practice we work with our hygienists to achieve this aim of good oral health.
We encourage, teach and motivate our patients in preventative care. The hygienists first role is to guide patients on good brushing technique, flossing, dietary habits etc.
Their second role is to remove the staining, plaque and hard scaly deposits.
Key advice is:
1. Brush teeth and gum edges with a pea sized amount of toothpaste twice a day. The toothpaste should
contain between 500 ppm for children and 1450 ppm for adults of fluoride. Gums toughen up with a good
pounding!
2. Just spit out after brushing, do not rinse.
3. Use fluoride toothpaste last thing before going to bed for night time protection. Only drink water
at night.
4. Teeth like a recovery time between food intakes of at least 2 hours. Grazing of food or carbonated
drinks is far from ideal. Drink water.
