Maintaining Your Smile

Maintaining your smile

Committed dental care across Chalford Hill, Surrounding villages, Stroud and the Cotswolds

Your smile is so important to your self-confidence and to how others may perceive you. It goes without saying that being able to smile without embarrassment is important to many aspects of your life.

At Fourways Dental Surgery, our main aim is for you to feel pleased and confident about your smile. We approach this through a combination of dental examinations that check for decay and ensure any existing restorations remain fit for purpose, and hygiene therapy that prevents further disease.

Our teeth are such precious assets. They give our face its structure; allowing us to eat, sing, speak, chew, smile and so much more. It is why we will always try to save and restore your natural teeth. Treatments for restoring your mouth’s function may include a full range of dental treatments such as natural-looking fillings, inlays/ onlays , crowns, bridges, dentures, dental implants, root canal work and teeth whitening.

Following your dental examination, should any treatment be required, we will provide you with a treatment plan that considers your budget, timeframes, and aesthetic desires.

Smile, eat and speak with ease

When our mouths work well, we often take them for granted. But the moment we have a problem, we realise just how vital a healthy mouth is for everything from eating, speaking and smiling, to our sense of wellbeing.

White Fillings:

  • strengthen teeth that have been weakened by decay
  • protect fractured, cracked and worn teeth.
  • improve the shape, alignment and shade of a tooth.
  • help strengthen the tooth after root canal treatment.

  • improve the shape, alignment and shade of a tooth.
  • help strengthen the tooth after root canal treatment.
  • porcelain crowns are crafted to look natural and blend in with the rest of your teeth and can eliminate dark metallic lines around the gums.

Bridges:

  • replace the spaces left by missing teeth.
  • improve your ability to eat and chew.
  • stop your teeth from drifting into the spaces left by missing teeth.

Dentures:

  • created with your comfort in mind.
  • made from metal and/or acrylic to suit your mouth.
  • crafted to look natural and improve your smile.
  • carefully fabricated to enable you to eat and chew with ease.

Dental hygiene

Healthy teeth for life

We believe hygiene therapy is a crucial part of the service we provide at Fourways Dental Surgery. The hygienists will help to prevent disease.

Healthy gums promote healthier teeth. Without healthy gums, cosmetic or dental treatments to restore your mouth’s function are not possible. Gum disease affects most adults and more than half of all teenagers. It’s the biggest cause of tooth loss and is linked to heart disease, bacterial lung infections, diabetes, premature births and strokes – and new research suggests there may be a link to dementia and SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes covid 19). Thankfully with good  care from the dentists and regular visits to the hygienist, the risks can be controlled.

Our hygienists are professionally trained to the highest standard, meaning whomever you see, you are guaranteed hygiene care that is second to none.

During your hygiene appointment we will undertake a thorough cleaning of your teeth and gums. After a session with our hygiene team, you will feel and see a real difference in your mouth.

Our hygiene team will:

  • prevent and manage gum disease and bone loss.
  • deep clean your teeth and gums.
  • relieve bad breath and bad tastes.
  • advise on brushing and flossing techniques
  • recommend inter-dental products for your mouth.
  • provide diet and lifestyle advice.
  • provide air polishing to remove stains and return lustre.

Regular visits will minimise the chances of you needing more expensive, invasive dental treatment in the future.

Children

Ensure your child enjoys healthy teeth – for life

Children are born free from dental disease, yet by adulthood 80% of the population has active gum disease and most people have experienced some tooth decay and even tooth loss.

Dental disease is preventable and at Fourways Dental Surgery it is our belief and passion to make it so.

In order to maintain a healthy mouth and confident smile for life it is essential that good dental care starts early. Families at our practice are encouraged to bring their children to us for their initial visit as soon as their first tooth appears. By teaching children the most effective brushing techniques from a young age, they will take these skills into adulthood. We give advice to parents/carers to help children achieve this.

When I went to the dentist

“When I went to the dentist the chair goes down a lot. The dentist was really gentle with my teeth. I got a sticker at the end. In fact I want to be a dentist when I grow up. The dentist was very very friendly.”
